What Is Clinical Supervision?

Clinical supervision is a professional relationship in which a psychotherapist meets with an experienced clinician who is trained as a clinical supervisor. This provides a structured space for reflection, learning, and professional growth.

Supervision offers:

  • Mentorship and apprenticeship

  • Clinical guidance and feedback

  • Support in navigating challenges, boundaries, and ethical concerns

  • Space to explore difficult or complex cases

  • Opportunities to integrate theory, self-reflection, and clinical practice

Goal is to analyze, refine, and strengthen clinical work, while supporting the therapist’s development.

Helps clinicians feel:

  • Less isolated in their work

  • More supported and understood

  • Better equipped to work through clinical challenges

  • More grounded in their professional identity

  • More confident in their clinical judgment and decision-making

Through supervision, therapists grow not only in skill, but also in presence and clarity with clients.
