Coping with Caregiving

When a loved one begins to need your day-to-day assistance, it suddenly shifts both of your lives. What had been an independent coexistence suddenly changes. Roles are shaken up, and both of your lives are upended. New decisions and strategies must often be made.

Caregivers are often in situations that feel overwhelming and untenable. You may feel resentful and experience both mental and physical fatigue. While you empathize with your loved one's needs, it is essential to maintain your own physical and mental health.

One of the most important things to consider is how to achieve equilibrium—how to locate and obtain the support you need while maintaining balance and meaning in your own life as you help someone else cope with their realities.

Therapy can provide the partnership you need as you navigate the challenges of becoming a caregiver. Let us help you through the stages of assuming this role. We will listen, empathize, and guide you in finding assistance and support—both within your own framework and through available community and social service networks. It’s not easy, but we are here for you during this difficult time.
